The final signal of the France-Croatia match sounded and Paris exploded.
At that moment - we had seen the second half of the match - we stood in the middle of a sweltering hot Place de la Republique.
From all sides people, gathered in and before the cafes and brasseries that line the square began to cheer, jump, embrace and applaud.
Flocking the empty streets and boulevards they soon headed for the centre of the Place.
There they climbed the statue of Marianne and started to party.
We joined and watched them in the evening. Never seen a party like this before. Impromptu dance parties on the streets, people jumping of the bridges across the canal St. Martin and an endless stream of happy French walking to and fro the Place de la Republique.
We were there!
In a next blog I'll tell about our ballroom dancing in Le Retro... (the reason we came to Paris!)
