A Paris gem: le Retro Dancing near Place de la Republique

Last time we went to Paris we wanted to combine our visit with our latest hobby: ballroom dancing.

We found a strange place called 'le Retro' (Ballroom definitely being retro..). Situated between the Place de la Republique (see my yesterday blog) and picturesque Canal st. Martin and open daily for 'afternoon dance' from 2 till 8 p.m.

In short: visiting the place the first time was a success, the dancing was not. We were simply not trained enough to dance to the strange rythms the French love so much: uptempo 3 or 4 beats to a bar or too fast samba's or rumba's (on a marble, ie very slippery floor!).
It all came down to improvising and that didn't come off.

This time, almost two years later, it did. We did an impromptu European- cum Argentinian Tango which suited most of the music. At 5 the floor suddenly emptied and women started dancing with each other - the World Cup finale had begun!

During the time out before the second half we left and walked on completely deserted streets. Amazing - I'll show you some pictures of that too.
The final picture is of the Canal st. Martin, hours later, still crowded with partying people.
