Lazing on a Sunday afternoon

After a day jam-packed with High Culture in Ravenna we opted for a day off.
We had visited some 8 churches, 3 mausolea, a centuries old Library and a couple of Famous Tombs - one of which Dante's! - and since the shops in Ravenna might be closed on Sunday we checked the map to see what was on offer outside the city.

A lot. We took the car and headed north into the Po Delta Park and the 'Valli (wetlands) di Comacchio' to the commercial centre of the area, the village of Comacchio.
Read what the Emilia Romagna (that's the region the Po Delta is part of) site has to say about it:

Comacchio, the "little Venice", is an enchanting lagoon town: it's neat and unfeigned, endowed with a vitality that comes from a strong respect for its own history and for the environment that surrounds it. The limpid brightness of the light reminds us that we are close to the sea here, and this light goes on to flood the town, only to be increased by the calm surfaces of the canals. A treasure chest of particular natural beauty and reminders of its history, Comacchio, now known as the capital of the Po Delta Park, is a little town that was born and still lives between the land and the water.

Isn't that beautifully phrased. We do agree, though.
We had the most wonderful lazy Sunday afternoon in this quiet little town.
And it really was the rural equivalent of Venice, with canals and bridges (one of which the peculiar  Tre Ponti, Three Bridges) and a host of charming restaurants where you could sit outside and eat the local speciality - aguille, eel - to your hearts content.
We did, and considered it one of the best spent lazy Sunday afternoons ever!
