A summer holiday spend in Great Britain: the Midlands

We're very fortunate to live in a place where people go for a holiday, so the Summer holiday season is a time we normally spend in our garden - with a late evening detour to the beach for a refreshing swim.

Not this year though. After a once-in-a-decade heatwave early July and a once-in-a-decade summerstorm later that month temperatures dropped to an autumnal chill and we decided to go for greener pastures. Hence England, a country known for it's long and hot summers ;)

I invite you to read about our trips into the Midlands, with the Peak District - the Brontë sisters country - and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
We visited the Midlands industrial cities, clustered around the Peak District with it's fresh water and coal mines: impoverished Nottingham, stately Manchester, and vibrant Birmingham.

We went to see Blackpool.

And visited many wonderful places on our way: the beautiful Lavenham Guildhall, the birthplace of Newton with the famous apple tree and the home of Lord Byron, to name but a few.
For even more culture we sang happily along at the Manchesters' Last Night of the Proms (a highlight if there ever was one).
Enjoy reading!
