Wonderful shopping in Curacao: the Big New Mini Supermarket

Supermarkets.
I love them. Especially in Unknown Territory.
Since Curacao was unknown territory for us I very much looked forward to visiting the local shops.

Well, there weren't many local shops where we stayed at the Westpunt.
Actually, there weren't hardly any at all.
The few shacks selling goods on the road around the Westpunt - that sounds derisive, but honestly, they weren't more than shacks - were closed most of the time.
The first decent sized supermarket was a 20 minutes drive away in the village of Barber, on the other, north side of the Westpunt.

Minimarket Centro. Amazing.
We daily thought of must-buys and went back, even after we found other and also wonderful supermarkets near Willemstad.

That said, Curacao has for a long time been Dutch, and is still homeground to a lot of Dutch expats.
So much that one of our most famous chains of supermarkets, AH, has a huge big store in Willemstad, which we flatly refused to visit.
Might have been wonderful of course, walking in your own completely Dutch AH XL in the tropics at the other end of the world - but a nono for us.
Even the Centrum Supermarket - which we visited because a) it was open on Sunday and b) because of it's address, 'Weg naar Bullenbaai' (Road to Bullenbaai) - we didn't like very much because they sold too many things we buy in Holland on a daily basis and that's not where you go to Curacao for.

Hence a couple of photos of the more 'special' supermarkets. All owned by Chinese, and all offering an assortments of foods and goods to die for.
