The river runs dry

An extremely hot summer and no rain to speak of for months: our rivers are running dry. Such low water levels goods cannot be transported by ships anymore.
I grew up near the river IJssel, a branch from the (far more famous) Rhine river.
My mother called me to say she had never seen the water level this low - influents of the IJssel near her home had even almost dried out completely. Time to have a look myself.
