September in Holland and, on the day of the first Embassy Festival, absolutely gorgeous weather.
One of the most beautiful sites in the Hague is the 'Lange Voorhout' (IMHO one of the most beautiful sites in Holland anyway): a wide promenade lined with very old trees and beautiful, centuries old houses. The penultimate place to have a festival such as this one.
The first weekend of september is all about our new cultural season. There's the 'Uit Markt', where all the cultural venues promote their activities for the coming season and this year, for the first time, the Embassy Festival.
I was so happy with only the idea of this festival - just about all the foreign Embassies in Holland are housed in the Hague, and we know so little of them. This was going to be such a great opportunity to get to know them!
Some twenty Embassies promoted their countries.
We arrived at twelve, when the festival started, and left a whopping four hours later - by then the Lange Voorhout was fully packed with people enjoying everything that was on offer: culture, music, theatre, dance performances, debates, and great food.
The organising committee will no doubt agree with me: next year we're going to do this again!
We will be there. Count on us. This was a great festival. We love to see more of all the countries that have their Embassy in the city we live in. Brilliant!
